Classic LoL Update 4: Old Graves Returns, Community Council Speaks for the First Time

Riot Games has announced Update 4 for Classic League of Legends (Classic LoL), a nostalgia mode recreating early League of Legends systems and champion kits. The update brings back classic Graves, a champion the community has awaited since the mode was announced, along with Fizz, Nami and Nautilus. According to David "Phreak" Turley, Riot Games representative, the community Council has completed its first vote. Results show 52.8% of players consider match duration appropriate, while 48.8% rate snowballing as stable. The Council also supported the return of jungle respawn timers, the Eye item, and three proposed items. However, Riot has not disclosed disagreement rates for these decisions. On the balance side, Akali, Galio, Kassadin, Poppy and Shyvana receive buffs, while Fiora, Morgana and Twisted Fate are nerfed. No exact percentages or win rates have been published, so the real impact of these changes remains unverified. Riot also acknowledged problems with the player-classification system, which can place new players in the wrong skill brackets. The suspected bot issue in Classic lobbies was mentioned, but Riot says it is less serious than social media feedback suggests. Riot's own hypothesis is that some bot-like behavior may actually be caused by players unfamiliar with old kits. Update 4 is linked to a September 23 roadmap. The next Council vote will let the community choose the next champion to restore. This makes Classic LoL an unusual experiment in community governance: playing earns voting power, and voting shapes content priorities. From an esports perspective, Classic LoL does not affect the professional meta, as all changes are isolated in a legacy mode. The real significance is retention strategy and community trust. If votes are treated as advisory only, skepticism may grow. If Riot follows the Council, the mode could become a useful governance model for the gaming industry.
